QUALIFYING SCHOOL FOR 2010 SEASON

I guess most of you have seen the results after the first round – DSQ for disqualified! Let me explain to you what happened: after having played and fighted for 5 hours on the course, we controlled, signed and handed in the score cards. Everything was fine until I started to discuss with my caddy my two catastrophic holes. Suddenly I realised that on that par 4 it wasn’t a 6 as I thought but a 7. I even holed a 5m putt on that hole and was sure it was for a double bogey. Recounting the strokes several times, I knew I wrote down the wrong score. The unfortunate circumstance was, that my marker wrote down a 6 as well and we didn’t realise it when controlling the card. Sadness, anger and disappointment went through my head – I knew European tour 2010 was gone. I knew if I would go in to the office now and report the mistake I’d be disqualified. But for me it wasn’t really a question of doing it or not, but walking into the office and disqualify yourself is a very hard step to take, especially on a tournament like Q-school which decides over the whole next year. But that’s the game, the etiquette of golf, the rules and especially my character – I could never cheat. With this a very tough year is going to end soon - many changes and a lot of ups and downs. After an event like this, it’s always tough to say what’s going to happen in the next season. Challenge tour in Sweden or Spain, invites for LET… I don’t know yet. But I have planned my winter training already and will go back to Florida from mid January to mid March and continue playing on the Minor League Tour in the States.
